Pet Peeves

There are few things that get under my skin. Typically I'm a laid back kind of guy who just doesn't sweat the small stuff in life. Why should I? Stress is a bitch and stress makes me cranky. Who likes a cranky person? No one, that's who. I'm not perfect though, which is why there are some events that just annoy me.

Right now it's a missing email. It bugs me to no end when someone tells me, "I will email you right away", especially when it's a rather important email containing information I need and 6 days later you still don't have the email.

To compound the issue, I've sent a reminder message, but still nothing.

You know how people don't like it when one says, "I'll call you", but you don't? Well it works with email too.

Take 5 minutes out of your oh-so-busy day and send me the info I need! It's three lines at the most, not a 25 page essay.

Pills

If I haven't talked about it enough already; I had wisdom tooth surgery on Wednesday. As is typical, but most likely because of my screwy heart, I'm on anti-biotics. I just have to say these things are huge! Not moderate, but huge! If pill taking was porn I'd be a deep-throat master.

Early in the week we had some "strong storms" move through. Aside from the Tornado watch the storms were more bark than bite, but it certainly was windy. As a result we had some mild damage.

One of those days

Ever have one of those days where even though you slept really well, feel completely rested, and had your delicious cup-o-gasm, you're just really sluggish?

I'm having one of those days so far. I don't know what the problem is. Sure, it might be cold outside, but since I'm inside that has no real influence. Gosh, it's taking me 20 minutes just to get up to the shower. So sluggish that I stopped here to write this!

I have things I want to accomplish today. Something tells me it might not happen at the rate I'm going.

I started seeing commericals for this site a few days ago. I finally checked it out this morning. A lot of full-length movies (Not just some crappy ones, but some really good ones) and tv shows.

It's free and a great time-killer for us entertainment junkies.

Sleeeepy

It was a rough night!

Had the surgery and everything went fine. Didn't feel a darn thing and it was over before I knew it. I arrived at 6pm and was out the door at 6:55pm. Just in time to get home and watch the hockey game.

The aftermath was the bad part though, which I guess should be expected after you've had your jaw abused by numerous devices like knives, bone saws, and ice pick-like prying objects. Once that numbness wore off..whoa-nellah! I was eating the Vicodin every 3 hours, as opposed to the, "1 Tablet Four times Daily". Hey, when you need it, you need it.

Didn't sleep at all until about 4am, but I was promptly up again at 7am for another dose. However, right now, it's been 6 hours since my last pain pill, which means my necessity for them is becoming lower. I am feeling better aside from a swollen jaw and cheek. Oh, and the sexy bruise.

Anyways, I have plans on just staying in bed today. Watch some movies, cat nap when needed, and play some games. I'll get back to my normal day tomorrow.

6pm Tomorrow

The knives, drills, and saws come out. Truly, I don't mind the dentist, but this impact has my nerves rattled. I guess it's because this is a bit more major than a silly root canal, or a filling.

At the same time, the prospect of putting this annoyance behind me is exciting. Damn it all. Why did I have to have the lazy wisdom teeth? Oh well. A little over 24 hours from now the circus begins.

Ouch

My wisdom tooth, impacted, is quite cranky right now. I think I'm going to retract my earlier decision to put off having it removed. I can't take the daily aggrivation anymore.

A wind of change

I think too much. When that happens I end up changing my mind. Not that this is a bad thing. Quite often it allows me to see the bigger picture instead of first instinct.

FuckFotki! Not only do they lack features I'm seeking, it's fun to say three times fast. So I went back and looked at the idea of opening a second DeviantArt account as a Print Store. Considering they offer far more options in product, they offer additional services like framing. Priced correctly, the 50/50 offset will pay off equally to Fotki and I'll get more out of my work. Really, it's no different than the offset of cost and return if I owned the supplies in-house.

So burn, Fotki. Burn in your featureless hell. Ok, I don't need to be mean. Fotki is great and it makes a great replacement curse word. I've just decided I need to stick with what I'm familiar with.

Soon I shall print en'mass!

So I'm pretty sure, almost positive, that I'll begin selling prints through Fotki on a 24/7 basis now. No more custom, private, orders. There are a few things left to take care of, which is most everything. It's only "few" because there aren't many steps. It will, however, take me awhile to upload and organize.

Regardless, I'm excited. Nervous, too. I don't know why. Fuck, I hate anxiety. Fotki isn't exactly my dream method of sales as it doesn't offer framing services, but it's the best deal for premium service and the commission they take is very reasonable (15% prior to print cost - 77c on the dollar).

So in the coming week(s) I'll begin the process of picking and choosing my best photography and trying to grab permissions from stock holders for Digital Painting pieces.

So much to do! Tomorrow I'll start uploading and checking sizes.

Valentine Ghost

I kept hearing sounds last night as though someone was walking around in the loft. Now, it's not unusual for others around here to go downstairs in the middle of the night. So typically, if it happens once, or even twice in a night, I don't pay much attention.

Last night though, it was happening a lot. Yet, everytime I looked outside the door, or went down the stairs myself, noone was around. At one point, the door to the other room, which is always closed at night, was partially opened. Again, didn't really put too much thought into it as it could have been someone forgetting to close it, but seeing that I never saw anyone up and around, it bothered me. An hour later, before I went to bed, the door was closed. Again, someone else up? Or...

Being that it's Valentines day, one could say I'm being haunted by a former flame. Spawning for a night to toy with my head and sneak into my bed while I sleep. This, however, suggests such a former flame is now dead and that would fit into the suckage catagory. Where is Ohio's version of T.A.P.S when ya need it?

For now, I'll blame it on the wind. That indoor, not existant, calm outside, sort of wind.

I often get asked why, when I choose to go in front of the lens, I tend to push my limits. My response usually is, "Because the things I dislike about myself can be used as tools of power".


There is no shying away from it; when I get in front of the lens I prefer to do images that reveal my personal distastes about myself and address topics that society has a distaste for as well.


I also do it because I have a great loathing for the hypocrisy involving female vs. male nude photography. I only speak from my personal experience when I say the following: Male nude photography is often rejected as simplistic porn, while female nude photography is widely accepted as art.

Now don't get me wrong. Being a straight male I highly enjoy viewing the female body :D but I'm also keenly aware of the artistic values portrayed in nude art by both female AND male.

When I first published my work, "Silence is Golden", I received one comment in particular which stated, "Fucking porn". Is it really? If one were to redo that digital painting in exact form, from light, to setting, to pose, but use a female subject instead, I wonder if that person come to the same conclusion?

In the end it comes down to this for me. There are some stories, some messages to be sent, that can only be done in such raw manners. The subjects form provides an emotion that can only be captured and sent by the revelation. It should not be restricted by one gender, or the other, but equally viewed for what message you receive from the art you view.

Many are like me in this world who dislike physical traits about themselves, but there should be no shame in it. Long ago I realized that it can be a source of telling and I will continue to do so no matter how many tell me it isn't "proper".


Besides, I got my ticket to hell back in High School when I broke at least 5 of the 7 deadly sins in one evening. Ooops.

When Scarface himself sits face to face with the Taxi Driver, it makes for one of the best film scenes of all times. For those who haven't seen the movie (which would shock me) Al Pacino plays a cop, DeNiro plays a robber/bank thief. I should mention this movie also has one of the best gun fights ever filmed.

To those who know me well, really well, know that I much prefer to be behind the lens instead of in front of it. It's the picky part of me. However, now and then I'll get in front of it mostly due to peer pressure from individuals.

So I present to you the set for Lina Mai Co.

Lina Mai was a classmate of mine in University. We had the grand luck of suffering the agony of Visual Basic together. If we had a nickel for every time we slammed our foreheads on our keyboards, well.....

The thing I love most about Lina is that she talks fast - REAL fast. And as she talks fast, she jumps around from topic to topic. It's hilarious and it's what makes her Lina-MAI!

After we both left, she headed off to San Francisco with Lee (now her Husband), who was in other classes with me. Most notable was Economics where we tore up the class with our dual-weilding essays of straight A's.



Back on topic; We've kept in touch over the years via emails and messages. A few months ago, around Halloween '08, she informed me that she and Lee were planning to start their own clothing company. Mostly a jeans line, casual wear shirts, and similar products, but with her own added style. She was always quite the dresser.

Since that time she has pleaded with me on countless occasions to get in front of my camera and "model". She sent me a photo style from some sort of magazine ad that she wanted. I asked what it was for and she replied with a -bonk on your head-, which bascially meant, "Never you mind!".

Finally I gave into the peer-pressure and did some shots. She hasn't quite told me what they'll be used for if anything at all, but she seemed pleased with how they turned out.

Once they get the site up and running I'll be sure to post it and spam it so I can peer-pressure the public to check out their stuff.
